Poem written for my husband’s retirement party
Retirement is not a chapter ending
But a phase of life to those tending
Rocking chairs are not for you
Motorcycles beckon shiny and new
At last you’re really free to go
And time is no longer worry or woe
So many roads so many choices
The sound of wind echoing its voices
When you return from your journey long yearning
I’ll be home keeping the fires burning
We’ll travel together our new sojourn
Seeing what else there is to learn
Thirty-three years your career invested
Through those years our marriage tested
We’ve weathered storms through thick and thin
Retirement yet another challenge to win
God grant you peace; I love you honey
But please look for work when we run out of money.
